My Woodworking Adventure
After a forced retirement due to a serious physical disability, I quickly learned that I need to keep my hands busy, so I decided to visit an old friend, woodworking! With some assistance I lowered my workbenches to accommodate my wheelchair to allow me to effectively use my equipment. What began as a few small projects, I challenged myself with different products and techniques that eventually led to a collection of things that continued to grow.
Where Does Inspiration Come From?
Inspiration comes from things around me, whether it's something that I see in nature, my grandchildren playing, or simply something that I see in the grain of the wood. Each piece comes with its own challenges and satisfaction. All of my creations use the natural color of the wood, no paints or dyes. Wood naturally has so many colors, green, red, purple, yellow, black. So much more than shades of brown!
My Healing Journey
What began as a form of therapy has become a new beginning. My disability had me convinced that I could no longer do anything that I enjoy. Being disabled gave me the time to reflect on everything that gave me pleasure that I can no longer do. Returning to woodworking has saved my life. Everything that I make is something that I can still do on my own, keeping my independent spirit intact.
So Many Projects, So Little Time!
Keeping myself challenged with different things helps me spiritually, but also leads to a whole lot of unique things that I don't have the space to keep in my little house. By offering them here I hope that others can enjoy them as well! I'm always looking for a challenge. Wedding centerpieces, toys, decorations, bowls, vases, jewelry boxes, trinket boxes, signs, baby gifts. If you have something in mind, let me know and I'll see what I can do!
